Adele Mara..............Born Adelaide Delgado in 1925 Spanish-American Adele Mara was a singer/dancer with Xavier Cugat and His Orchestra in Detroit by the age of 15. Cugat took the stunning brunette, with brown-eyed eyes, to New York. A Columbia talent scout was able to spot her, and she signed on in 1942. After 1942 she appeared as a hot leading lady in a number of boring B movies such as Vengeance of the West starring Tex Ritter. After signing up with Republic Studios a few more years later, she changed herself into a blonde, platinum-colored pinup. They were busy at the Republic Studios, often as a senorita opposite Roy Rogers and Gene Autry. Blackmail, Web of Danger as well as Wake of the Red Witch featuring John Wayne were also good choices. Angel in Exile was released in 1948, and Sands of Iwo Jima (both starring Duke Wayne) are arguably two of the greatest films she has ever done. It was not often that she had the chance to display her acting skills but by 1950, her career had waned. Her final screen performance would be in The Big Circus (1959) featuring Victor Mature. Adele later moved to television and appeared as a guest star in various western films. Following her marriage to the TV entrepreneur Roy Huggins (who produced many success shows, such as 77 Sunset Strip and Maverick) She eventually settled to live with her husband and family. A lot of shows that she appeared on included her as a featured guest. The couple had three sons. Huggins died in 2002.
